Lemons: Growing, Cooking, Crafting

I have not posted here in a while.  My wonderful husband created a beautiful website for me here:
http://kernow-hosting.com/~bvc/rene/

He is learning web design and created something similar to what I have, only in green.  I asked if I could have one in purple and this is what he made.    So I've added some updates to my "Tea Time" page.

Notice what I'm reading? Lemons!  I just finished a 5 day lemonade fast.  I just love lemons!    The book shown above is super neat.  Not only does it have cooking and baking recipes, but it has recipes to make soap, potpourri, candles, bath salts, hand soap, lotion and many other things.  It also has information on the history of lemons and how to grow your own!  I am going to try that one day.

Yesterday was, of course, Father's Day and I completely forgot until about noon.  My husband didn't remember either.  So I whispered to the girls and we got out the construction paper and glue and glitter paint and made big cards for him.  He loved them.    Then I made pot roast, carrots and potatoes for him, one of his favorite dinners.

After dinner we turned off most of the lights and I lite a candle and read Anne Of Green Gables to my girls.  It was neat and I think I'd like to start doing that more often in the evenings.

My middle daughter will be turning 5 on Wednesday!  She has requested a Doll cake.  I've made the doll cake twice for my oldest daughter, but not for my middle daughter.  I was hoping she'd go for the lamb cake.  I've not used that pan to really decorate a nice cake yet.  But she was adament.    Maybe I'll do the lamb cake in a few weeks just for fun.

Today is an absolutely beautiful day!  I believe there will be no more cold weather for me this year.  The girls went swimming in the tiny toddler pools our neighbor gave us.  Our neighbors and closest friends in this community are an elderly couple.  The man is retired and not in good health.  He has diabetes and is in a wheel chair.  But that doesn't stop him from getting around and getting things done!

He built a huge water fountain on his porch several years ago, but decided a few days ago that he was tired of it so he took it down.  He was using two hard plastic toddler pools as the base, he had one inside the other.  So he asked if I wanted them.  The girls had lots of fun!  We hope to get them a larger inflatable pool later in the season, but for now the toddler pools are great!

This type of day makes me want to go bike riding in a park and then settle down to a picnic with tea and feed the ducks.

I just started reading Jane Eyre today and it's a very nice book so far.  I just started chapter 4.  I love, love, love to read!  I'm still reading (and taking notes) the book on charting your fertility cycles that I posted below.  I had read it years ago and charted for 6 months.  It's amazing to see how wonderfully God has created our bodies and how it all works like a finely tuned computer.  And if you didn't know computers could be fine tuned, you should talk to my husband - the King of computer tweaking. LOL

I signed up for this mainly to leave a comment and be able to subscribe and get updates about the ladies I know.  But I've come across a couple of ladies who are subscribed to *me* - so I thought I better write something. LOL

I just fall more in love with my husband and daughters everyday!  They are so amazing.  I remember, before I had kids, hearing ladies say they are so glad school has started and they kids were gone all day.  It sounded so bad!  I thought "I'll never think that about my kids!"  Then I had them.  I've always planned to homeschool, so enjoying the time they were at school was never an option, but there have been many many times over the years that I longed for a break!  But everytime I got one (and they were few and far between) it just seemed to result in more stress.  Mostly because instead of feeling refreshed and more able to do my job as "Momma" I was even more discontent and just kept looking for another "time away".

Then I met the ladies on the Shed and heard so many of them with way more kids than I have (like 8 and 10!) say that they have no desire to "get away" from their kids.  I realize that I'd bought in to our modern society's mindset that children are a burden.  I also realized that a lot of my daily stress came from my lack of training the children and lack of organization in our home.  Things are so much better when the kids obey and when there is a routine in place - which we are working on.  I'm so lazy, I often scrap the routine way too much and then chaos reigns again.

But, over time I'm beginning to really enjoy my kids and I don't feel like I *need* a break.  When dh and I go out on a date it's wonderful to be alone with him out and about.  But I'm just as happy when the dates over and we get to see the kids again. :)

My 2 yr old has gotten in the bad habit of saying "Mom! You kidding!" about almost anything we say - while giving a command or whatever.  So we decided it had to stop.  I swatted a couple of times Saturday and told her firmly not to say that anymore.  Last night I told her to go potty (we had just finished brushing teeth and were already in the bathroom), she sat down and said "Mom, I not say 'you kidding'" - she had the most serious look on her face and it was so cute I almost laughed.  Oh, she's adorable!
